My daughter Jordan was born with the heart defect Pulmonary Atresia with intact ventricular septum that was picked up during my 12 week foetal scan.
As a new mum it was the scariest thing I’ve been through but we had the most fantastic cardiac team at Guy’s and St. Thomas in London.
Jordan had a shunt fitted at just a few days old, then at 7 months old she had the semi Fontan procedure.
At four years old Jordan had the full Fontan, which seemed to be the magic surgery that gave Jordan her rosy pink lips and her new passion to try new foods.
Everything was always really good with Jordan until she reached 13 when she developed swelling of the legs, she was diagnosed with protein loosing enteropathy (PLE), which was treated quickly and went away, other than that Jordan never gave her cardiac team any concerns.
About 3 years ago when Jordan was 22, she started to get swelling of the legs again, with various hospital appointments at St. Thomas, lots of medication to help control the fluid and the losing protein, Jordan’s cardiac consultant decided the best option was for her to have a heart transplant and be placed under the care of the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle as PLE is more difficult to treat in adults.
Jordan went on the active list on 6th August 2024, we have lots of mixed emotions, but I know it will improve Jordan’s quality of life.
We have a strong supportive family, with the support of the FHLTA and the fantastic Transplant Team at the Freeman, it makes that journey easier.
That’swhy Sarah my work friend decided to host a two-day cake sale with myself in February and raise some money for the charity.
We raised £1.087. I cannot thank my Tesco colleagues, family and friends enough that donated baked goods, bought a cake or two or who just generously donated.
FHLTA keep up the fantastic work you do, my Jordan has this.
Jordan started a journal in instagram and Facebook, please feel free to follow her journey. She’s one tough girl.
